Poem of the Month

January 2018

The Girl at the Party – by David Walklett

That flashing smile I know is not for me;
Those eyes which scan the room just pass me by.
I cast a furtive glance: I hope you’ll see;
Instead of which you turn and kiss some guy.
I can no longer watch; I turn away
To contemplate another night alone.
I tell myself I’m better off this way
Instead of waking up to find you gone.
Like this, all possibilities remain;
No door is closed, no ending yet foregone;
I won’t have romance clogging up my brain;
Nor will I wait for hours by the phone.
So though I lusted long but failed to move
At least I’ll live another day to love.
