Poem of the Month

Championship by Linda Dyson

Music pounding, sound resounding,

Ice maiden standing frozen

Till crescendos send her spinning, sliding, gliding

Swan like

And heedless-

Hurtling into double toe loop, triple salchow,

Followed fast by triple lutz

Whirling, furling and unfurling

Gravity defying, flying,

Landing on a single edge-

Ever flowing, never slowing,

Twirling, curling, chiffon swirling-

Triple toe loop, triple salchow,

Corkscrew spinning, death-defying, chasing through my dreams at night,

Gliding, sliding, peeling, wheeling, almost kneeling,

Flowing, glowing,

Mesmerising, heart rate racing,

Twizzling, sizzling, speed and height

Then bending low and backwards

Only on one blade and at such an angle,

Twisting, listing left and right,

Never slowing,

Always flowing, glowing

Constant motion, exhilarating

In the light,

Elegant and fairylike,

Never ending

Ever bending, elongating

Flying, flowing,

Insane spinning, cut glass crinkling

Until the magic moment’s done~

A tiny pause, then great applause

Flowers showering on the ice,

Elated bowing, smiles and glowing…

Pace is slowing,

Magic’s over in a trice.

Now the time of reckoning’s come.
